            Molecular Diagnostics Technologist MDT(AMT)

Molecular Diagnostics Technologist (MDT) applicants shall meet one of the following eligibility routes.  Applicants applying under all routes shall take and pass the MDT(AMT) certification examination.

Examination results will be mailed within 45-60 days of testing.

            Route 1: Medical Technologist Certification

Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent and a baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency, or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution as certified by a foreign transcript evaluation agency approved by AMT, and a minimum of six months of molecular science experience within the past five years.

            Additional Requirements:
            • If academic credit is required for eligibility an official transcript must be submitted.  The official transcript must be from an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency approved by AMT bearing the embossed seal of the academic institution, the date the degree was obtained, and the moniker of the 中国福利彩票官网首页 registrar.
            • All experience credited toward eligibility must have been gained in a clinical laboratory, research setting, or industrial setting that performs the chemical, physical, or biological examination of fluids, tissues, and specimens that use molecular diagnostic techniques and methodologies.  Where required, experience will be verified.  The experience must have been obtained within the past five years in at least one of the following seven clinical laboratory disciplines:
            1. Molecular Biology (Molecular foundations of the process of replication, transcription and translation of genetic material.)
            2. Genetics/Genomics (The effect of genetic differences on organisms; pharmacogenomics, mutations, inherited gene disorders, personalized medicine studies, etc.)
            3. Histocompatibility (DNA-based tissue typing determining the compatibility of the antigens of donor and recipient before tissue transplantation.)
            4. Infectious Disease Testing (Qualitative and quantitative testing of molecular organisms [virus, bacterium, etc.], PCR, sequencing, etc.)
            5. Tumor Markers (ALK gene rearrangements, Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), BCR-ABL fusion gene, BRAF mutation V600E, CA15-3/CA27.29, EGFR mutation analysis, etc.)
            6. Oncology/Hematology (BCR/ABL - t(9;22) by RT-PCR (quantitative), ABL Kinase Domain Mutation Analysis in CML, Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), breast cancer - profiles, etc.)
            7. Mass Spectrometry (In Gel Trypsin Digestion, Automated Edman Degradation, Electrospray Mass Spectrometry, etc.)

            Route 2: Molecular Science Program

Baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency, or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution as certified by a foreign transcript evaluation agency approved by AMT, including a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biological science, chemistry, mathematics, and/or medical science courses, and successful completion of a diagnostic molecular science program within the past five years.

            Route 3: Laboratory Science Education

Baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency, or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution as certified by a foreign transcript evaluation agency approved by AMT with a major in biological science or chemistry, or a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology, chemistry, and/or medical sciences, and a minimum of one year of molecular science experience within the past five years.
